About This Service
Replacing a vanity looks simple until you see the pipes behind it. Whether the water and waste come out of the wall or up through the floor decides which vanities fit without changes. A floor-standing vanity hides pipes that come up through the floor; a wall-hung vanity or basin needs them in the wall at the right height. Then there's the basin: the waste has to suit it, slotted for a basin with an overflow, unslotted for one without, and the mixer can sit on the basin, the bench or the wall. We install vanities, wall-hung and floor-standing, above-counter, semi-recessed and undermount basins, and mixers and wastes, using Caroma and Laufen among other brands, or the vanity you've chosen. Fixed price before we start, 12 months on our workmanship.

Pipes up through the floor
Common in older bathrooms. A floor-standing vanity covers them. A wall-hung vanity would leave them on show, so they need moving into the wall first.
Pipes out of the wall
Suits a wall-hung vanity or basin, as long as they're at a height the new vanity can hide. Most new and renovated bathrooms are set up this way.
Moving them
Moving pipes from the floor into the wall means opening the wall, and usually tiling after. It's often done as part of a bathroom renovation.
Basins, Wastes and Mixers
Basin types
Above-counter basins sit on the bench; undermount basins sit below a stone top; semi-recessed basins sit partly into the vanity; wall-hung basins fix straight to the wall.
The right waste
A basin with an overflow needs a slotted waste so the overflow can drain. A basin without one needs an unslotted waste. Getting it wrong leaks or looks wrong.
Where the mixer goes
On the basin, on the bench beside it, or on the wall. A tall above-counter basin needs a taller mixer or a wall spout, and a wall spout needs an outlet in the wall.
Bottle traps
Under a wall-hung basin, the trap is on show. A neat bottle trap is often used where it can be seen.
Before You Buy
Measure the space
Width, depth and the distance to the door, shower screen and toilet. A deeper vanity can make a small bathroom hard to move in.
Check the cut-outs
Vanity drawers and shelves need cut-outs for the waste and pipes. Some vanities come with them; others are cut to suit on site.
Send us a photo
A photo of the pipes under the existing vanity and the model you want is often enough for us to tell you if it will fit as is.
How It Works
Our Process
Check the pipes
Where the water and waste come in, and what the new vanity needs.
Remove
Water off, old vanity, basin and tap disconnected and taken out.
Install
Vanity fixed, basin, mixer, waste and trap fitted and connected.
Test
Water on, basin filled and drained, every joint checked for leaks.

Common Questions
FAQs
Can you install a vanity I've bought?
Yes. Check whether your pipes come from the wall or the floor first, or send us a photo and the model and we'll check.
Can I swap a floor-standing vanity for a wall-hung one?
Yes, if the water and waste come out of the wall at a suitable height. If they come up through the floor, they need moving into the wall first, which means opening it.
Do you install the basin and mixer too?
Yes. We fit the basin, mixer, waste and trap, and connect them to the water and drain.
What's the difference between a slotted and unslotted waste?
A slotted waste has openings that let water from the basin's overflow drain away. Basins with an overflow need a slotted waste; basins without one need an unslotted waste.
Can you replace just a cracked basin?
Often, yes, if a matching basin is still available for the vanity top, or the top is replaced with it. We'll check what fits.
How much does vanity installation cost?
We give you a fixed price before we start, with a $0 call-out fee.
