About This Service
Renovation plumbing happens in two visits. Rough-in is the first: with the room stripped and the walls open, we run the hot and cold water and the waste pipes to where the new fixtures will be, set the in-wall mixer bodies and shower outlets, and test the pipework before the walls are lined. Then the waterproofer, tiler and cabinetmaker do their part. Fit-off is the second visit: we install and connect the taps, basin, toilet, sink and appliances, run everything and check for leaks. Getting the rough-in right is what matters most, because every position is fixed once the tiles go on. We can install fixtures you've bought yourself, or supply them through Reece. You get a fixed price before we start, and 12 months on our workmanship.

Water lines to the new positions
Hot and cold pipes are run to each tap, mixer, toilet and appliance point in the new layout, and fixed so they don't move when the walls are lined.
Waste pipes with the right fall
Every waste needs to fall towards the drain. Moving a waste a short way on a timber floor is usually simple; on a concrete slab it can mean cutting the slab, which our drain relocation page covers.
Mixer bodies and shower outlets
In-wall mixers have a body that sits inside the wall, set to the depth of the finished tiles. If it's too deep or too shallow, the trim won't sit right, so we need the tile and wall thickness before we set it.
Tested before the walls close
The pipework is tested and capped before the plasterer or waterproofer starts, because a leak found after tiling means taking tiles off.
What Happens at Fit-Off
Taps and mixers
Mixer trims, basin and sink mixers, shower rails and bath spouts fitted to the rough-in.
Basins, vanities and toilets
Basins and vanities connected and sealed, toilets installed with new connectors.
Kitchen and laundry connections
The sink, dishwasher, filter tap, washing machine taps and laundry tub connected.
Run and checked
Everything is run, wastes are checked for leaks and for draining properly, and the water is left on and working.
Decide These Before Rough-In
These choices set where pipes go inside the wall. Changing them after tiling is the expensive kind of change.
Your tapware
In-wall mixer bodies are made for their own brand's trims, so choose the shower and bath mixers before rough-in and have them on site.
The type of toilet
A floor-mounted toilet, a back-to-wall toilet and an in-wall cistern with a wall-hung pan each need the waste and water in a different place. An in-wall cistern also needs its frame installed at rough-in.
Vanity and basin heights
A wall-hung vanity, a floor-standing one and a benchtop basin each put the waste and water at a different height.
Appliances and extras
Dishwasher, fridge water, filter or boiling water tap, washing machine position: each needs water, waste or both at rough-in.

Fixtures connected, run, and every joint checked for leaks.

Common Questions
FAQs
What does rough-in plumbing include?
Running the hot and cold water and the waste pipes to the new fixture positions while the walls and floor are open, setting in-wall mixer bodies and shower outlets, and testing the pipework before the walls are lined.
Do I need to choose my taps before rough-in?
For in-wall shower and bath mixers, yes. The body that goes in the wall has to match the trim that goes on after tiling, so it needs to be on site at rough-in.
Can you work with my builder, tiler or kitchen company?
Yes. We fit in around the other trades, or work directly for you if you're managing the renovation yourself.
Can you install fixtures I've bought myself?
Yes. We can install fixtures you've bought, or supply them through Reece.
Can you move the toilet or shower waste on a concrete slab?
Usually, yes, but it means cutting the slab to lay new drainage with the right fall. We look at it before you settle the layout.
How much does renovation plumbing cost?
It depends on the layout and how much moves. We give you a fixed price before we start, with a $0 call-out fee.
