Gas Cooktop Installation Sydney

New cooktop, or a cracked or worn-out one to replace? Our licensed gas fitters take the old one out, connect the new one, test the gas connection for leaks and take the old cooktop away.

No surprise bills: $0 call-out and a fixed price before any work starts.

Our guarantee: 12 months on our workmanship, in writing. What it covers

Installing a gas cooktop means isolating the gas, disconnecting and lifting out the old cooktop, setting the new one into the benchtop, connecting it to the gas supply and testing the connection for leaks before every burner is lit and checked. In NSW it has to be done by a licensed gas fitter, even when it is a straight swap. You can buy the cooktop through us or supply your own. We check the existing gas fitting and isolation valve while we are there, and only replace them if they need it. When we're done, the old cooktop goes with us.

A few checks before you buy save a second trip and a cooktop that doesn't fit.

Cooktops are set up for one gas type. Check the one you're buying matches your supply: piped natural gas, or LPG from bottles. If you're not sure, tell us the model and we'll check.

Cut-out sizes vary between brands and models, so check the new cooktop's installation guide against the hole in your benchtop. If it needs the same cut-out, it usually drops straight in. If it needs a bigger one, the benchtop has to be cut, which is a job for a stonemason or cabinetmaker. If it needs a smaller one, the cooktop may not cover the gap.

Manufacturers set minimum distances from the cooktop to rangehoods, walls and overhead cupboards. They're in the installation guide, and worth checking if you're moving the cooktop or changing the kitchen layout.

Most gas cooktops have electric ignition and plug into a power point in the cupboard below. If there isn't one, you'll need a licensed electrician to put one in.

A cracked glass top is a common reason to replace a cooktop. Stop using it until it has been looked at.

Burners that click without lighting, go out on their own, or only light with a match can be worn parts or a failing cooktop.

A healthy flame is mostly blue and even around the burner. Flames that are yellow, sooty or lift off the burner are worth getting checked by a licensed gas fitter.

Plenty of cooktops are replaced simply because the kitchen is being updated. If the sink, dishwasher or water lines are changing too, we can do the plumbing in the same visit.

The problem

The glass on the old gas cooktop was cracked.

What we did

We removed the old cooktop and took it away, installed the new cooktop the customer supplied, and tested the gas connection for leaks. The existing gas fitting and isolation valve were in good condition, so they didn't need replacing.

How It Works

01

Your gas type, the cooktop model and the benchtop cut-out, so the new one fits and suits your supply.

02

Gas isolated, old cooktop disconnected and lifted out.

03

New cooktop set in and connected to the gas supply.

04

Leak test, every burner lit, and the old cooktop taken away.

Common Questions

Yes. We install customer-supplied cooktops. Check that it suits your gas type (natural gas or LPG) and the existing benchtop cut-out before it is delivered.

No. In NSW, connecting or disconnecting a gas appliance must be done by a licensed gas fitter, even a straight swap. Unlicensed gas work is illegal and dangerous.

Yes. We remove the old cooktop and take it away as part of the job.

Not always. We check them when we replace the cooktop. If they are in good condition they stay; we only replace them when they need it.

Turn the burners off and don't light anything or touch light switches or appliances. If it is safe on your way out, turn the gas off at the meter. Get everyone outside and call from outside: for natural gas in Sydney, Jemena's faults and emergencies line is 131 909; for LPG, call your gas supplier; in immediate danger, call 000. Then call a licensed gas fitter.

We give you a fixed price before we start, with a $0 call-out fee.
