Mr. Clog Plumbing
Pit overflowing, full of silt and leaves, or nowhere for the yard water to go? We clear and clean stormwater pits, find out why they keep filling, and install new pits where the water collects.
No surprise bills: $0 call-out and a fixed price before any work starts.
Our guarantee: 12 months on our workmanship, in writing. What it covers
A stormwater pit collects water from the yard, paving or downpipes and sends it into the stormwater line. When the pit fills with silt, leaves or roots, or the line out of it blocks, the pit overflows and the water goes across the yard instead. In Rhodes, overflowing pits had been blocked by tree roots and debris: we cleared four stormwater pits and a grate by hand, ran a CCTV camera through the stormwater lines, then jet blasted all the stormwater lines on the property to clear the roots. That's the usual order: clean the pit, see what's in the line, then clear it. Where water pools with nowhere to go, we install new pits and grated drains and connect them into the stormwater. You get a fixed price before we start, and 12 months on our workmanship.

(02) 9139 8945 — available 24/7Silt, soil, mulch and leaves settle in the bottom of the pit until there's no room left and the outlet is covered.
Tree roots get into the joints of older stormwater pipe, and silt builds up behind them. The pit fills because the water can't leave it. That's what we found in Rhodes.
Leaves and grass clippings mat over the grate, so water runs past the pit instead of into it.
If water pools in a part of the yard with no pit, the problem isn't a blockage. It needs a new pit where the water actually collects.
A new pit goes at the low point where water pools, and is connected into the existing stormwater line, or a new line laid with fall to the discharge point.
A grate in a lawn or garden is different from one in a driveway, which has to take the weight of a car.
Along a patio, outdoor area or the bottom of a driveway, a grated strip drain catches water across its whole width. In Haberfield we installed grated strip drains along a new outdoor area to stop it flooding.
Stormwater and sewer are separate systems. New pits connect to the stormwater, never the sewer.
Lift the grate and look. If there's silt or leaves near the outlet, scoop them out.
Garden beds that wash into a pit fill it quickly. A border or a step in the level helps.
Washing leaves and soil off paving into the pit sends them straight into the line.
A pit that's full again soon after you've cleaned it usually means the line out of it is blocked.

Common Questions

Yes. Roots get into the joints of older stormwater pipe. In Rhodes we cleared roots from the pits by hand and from the lines with the jet blaster.
You can scoop silt and leaves out of the pit itself. If it fills again quickly or the water still won't drain, the line needs clearing.
