Moving a Hot Water System: Relocation Plumber Sydney

Want the hot water out of the laundry, off the side path, or out of the way of a renovation? We move gas and electric hot water systems and re-run the water, gas and drain lines to suit.

No surprise bills: $0 call-out and a fixed price before any work starts.

Our guarantee: 12 months on our workmanship, in writing. What it covers

People move a hot water system for all sorts of reasons: a renovation needs the space, an indoor tank is going outside, a new unit won't fit where the old one was, or it's simply in the way. Moving it is more than unbolting it. The cold supply, the hot line into the house and the relief valve drain all have to be extended or re-run to the new spot, and for a gas system so does the gas line. Gas units also have rules about how close the flue can be to windows, doors and other openings, which limits where they can go. For an electric system, the power to it has to be moved by a licensed electrician. We look at the old spot and the new one, tell you what's involved and give you a fixed price before we start. If the unit is old, it can make more sense to replace it than move it, and we'll tell you honestly.

The further the hot water system is from the bathroom and kitchen, the longer you wait for hot water at the tap, and the more water runs cold first. A move that shortens the run helps; one that lengthens it is worth thinking about.

Gas hot water systems need clearance between the flue and windows, doors, vents and some boundaries. The manufacturer's instructions and the gas rules set the distances, so not every wall works.

Storage tanks are heavy when full and need a solid, level base. Every unit needs room around it so it can be serviced and, one day, replaced.

The relief valve drain has to discharge somewhere it's safe and visible, and an indoor unit usually needs a safe tray under it.

Electric storage and electric continuous flow systems need their circuit run to the new spot by a licensed electrician.

Moving an old tank means paying for the labour on a unit that may not have long left. If it's showing its age, replacing it in the new spot is often the better use of the money.

Swapping a storage tank for a continuous flow unit, or gas for electric, changes the gas, power and space needed. A relocation is a good time to make that change, because the lines are being re-run anyway.

We install and service Rinnai, Rheem, Dux, Thermann, Vulcan, Bosch, Stiebel Eltron and AquaMAX hot water systems.

How It Works

01

Where it is now, where you want it, and what runs between them.

02

We quote the move, and tell you if replacing makes more sense.

03

Unit moved, water, gas and drain lines extended or re-run.

04

Filled, air purged, gas tested, and checked for leaks.

Common Questions

Usually, yes. We re-run the water, gas and drain lines to the new spot. For a gas unit, the new spot has to meet the flue clearances; for an electric unit, an electrician moves the power.

No. The flue needs clearance from windows, doors, vents and some boundaries, as set by the manufacturer's instructions and the gas rules. We check the spot before we quote.

It can. A longer pipe run to the bathroom or kitchen means a longer wait. Moving it closer can make it quicker.

For an electric hot water system, yes, to move the circuit. For a gas storage unit, usually not. Some gas continuous flow units need a power point nearby.

If it's old, often yes. We'll tell you honestly which makes more sense for your unit.

It depends on the distance and what has to be re-run. We give you a fixed price before we start, with a $0 call-out fee.
