About This Service
A fridge with an ice maker or a chilled water dispenser needs its own cold water supply. Usually it's taken from the cold line under the kitchen sink and run through the cabinetry, under the floor or through the wall to the fridge space. The details that matter are where the isolation valve goes, so you can turn the water off without pulling the fridge out; how the line is run and protected, so it doesn't get kinked or crushed; and leaving enough line behind the fridge to slide it out for cleaning. Most fridges filter the water inside; if yours doesn't, or you'd like better filtration, an inline filter can be fitted on the line. We run new lines for new fridges, move them when the fridge moves, and replace old lines that are leaking or kinked. Fixed price before we start, 12 months on our workmanship.

Fridge next to the sink
The simplest job: the line is taken from the cold water under the sink and run through the cabinets to the fridge cavity.
Fridge across the kitchen
On a timber floor, the line can usually run underneath. On a concrete slab, it may need to run through the cabinetry, the wall or the ceiling, so we look before we quote.
In a renovation
If the kitchen is being redone, the fridge water point is run at rough-in, with an outlet ready in the fridge space before the cabinets go in.
Details That Prevent Leaks
An isolation valve you can reach
If the valve is behind the fridge, you can't turn the water off without moving it. We put it in a cupboard next to the fridge or under the sink.
No kinks or pinches
A line that is kinked behind the fridge or crushed by a drawer slows the water to a trickle and can split. It's run and fixed so it stays clear.
Room to move the fridge
A loop of line behind the fridge lets you slide it out for cleaning without straining the connection.
Check the fridge manual
Fridges list the water pressure range their valves are made for. If the pressure is too high, a pressure limiting valve protects the fridge.
Filter Options
Filter in the fridge
Most fridges with a dispenser have a filter cartridge inside. It needs changing at the interval the manufacturer sets.
Inline filter
If the fridge doesn't have a filter, or you'd like more filtration, a filter can be fitted on the line where it can be changed easily.
Already have an under-sink filter?
In some kitchens the fridge line can be taken from after the under-sink filter, so the fridge and the filter tap share it.

My fridge isn't near the sink. Can you still run a line?

My ice maker has stopped working. Is it the water line?
It can be: a kinked or crushed line, a closed or faulty isolation valve, or a filter that needs changing. If the line and valve are fine, the fault may be in the fridge itself.
