Pressure Limiting Valve Installation Sydney

Water pressure too high, pipes banging, or an old pressure limiting valve that has stopped working? We install and replace PLVs on the incoming water service.

No surprise bills: $0 call-out and a fixed price before any work starts.

Our guarantee: 12 months on our workmanship, in writing. What it covers

A pressure limiting valve, or PLV, sits on the water service where it enters your property, usually near the water meter, and brings the mains pressure down to a steadier, lower level for the plumbing inside. Mains pressure can be high in parts of Sydney, and high pressure is hard on tap washers, cartridges, flexi hoses, toilet cistern valves, hot water systems and appliances. A PLV that is failing can let pressure creep up, or cause pressure that drops away. We test the pressure, install a new PLV or replace a faulty one, and test again so you can see the difference. You get a fixed price before we start.

High pressure makes water hammer louder when taps and appliance valves shut.

Water bursting out of the tap even when it's only opened a little.

Tap washers and cartridges, flexi hoses or toilet cistern valves that keep failing.

The relief valve on a storage hot water system releases water when pressure is too high, among other causes. Constant dripping is worth getting checked.

If the symptoms of high pressure come back on a property that already has a PLV, the valve may have worn out.

A PLV that sticks can leave you with weak flow through the whole property.

Water around the PLV near the meter is a sign it needs attention.

Where the incoming pressure is high, a PLV brings it down to protect the plumbing inside.

Many hot water systems and appliances have a maximum inlet pressure set by the manufacturer. Where the mains pressure is above it, a PLV may be required for the unit to be installed correctly.

A PLV may be required as part of new plumbing work, depending on the pressure at the property. We tell you if it applies.

How It Works

01

Measure the pressure coming into the property.

02

Explain what we found and quote the PLV work.

03

Water off, PLV fitted or replaced on the incoming service.

04

Water back on and the pressure tested again.

Common Questions

It reduces the mains water pressure coming into your property to a steadier, lower level, which is easier on taps, hoses, valves, hot water systems and appliances.

If you have one, it's usually on the water service near the water meter, close to the front boundary.

It depends on the pressure at your property and what's connected. We test the pressure and tell you whether one is needed or required.

If high pressure is part of the cause, bringing it down usually makes water hammer quieter. Loose pipes and fast-closing valves can also cause banging, so we check those too.

It shouldn't. A correctly installed PLV brings very high pressure down while still giving good flow. If your pressure is low, that's a different problem, covered on our water pressure page.
