The phones don't switch off at 5pm on a Friday.
Weeknights
Calls are answered through the night, every night. If the problem can't wait, a licensed plumber comes out. If it can, we'll say so and book a daytime visit.
Weekends
Saturday and Sunday are normal working days for our phones. A blocked only toilet on a Saturday morning doesn't have to wait until Monday.
Public holidays
Christmas, New Year, Easter and long weekends included. We answer every day of the year.
Worth a Call Tonight

Water you can't stop
A burst pipe, a split flexi hose or a leak that keeps running after you close the nearest valve.
Water near electrics
Water coming through a ceiling light, pooling near power points or reaching the switchboard. Keep clear of it and treat the electrical risk first.
Sewage coming up inside
A floor waste, shower or toilet backing up with waste water. Stop using water in the house until it is cleared.
Your only toilet is blocked
With a second toilet it can wait. With only one, it can't.

Water running from the tank itself, not just a drip from the relief pipe.
A smell of gas
Get everyone outside, leave switches and appliances alone, and ring 000 or your gas distributor's emergency line from outside. Then call a licensed gas fitter.
Usually Fine Until Morning
If you can isolate it and it isn't spreading, it can generally wait for a daytime booking.
A dripping tap
Annoying and wasteful, but not damaging overnight. Put a cloth in the basin if the noise keeps you awake.
A toilet that keeps running
Turn off the small isolation valve on the wall behind the toilet. You can still flush once more by pouring a bucket of water into the bowl.
One blocked toilet when you have another
Stop using it and use the other toilet. If it is the only toilet in the house, it moves up to urgent.
One slow drain
A single sink or shower draining slowly, with everything else normal, is a local blockage. Avoid using it overnight.
No hot water, and nothing leaking

Before a Long Weekend or a Holiday Away
A few minutes now saves a night-time call later, or coming home to a flooded house.
Check the main stop tap turns
It is usually beside the water meter near the front boundary. Old taps seize, and it is better to find that out on a quiet afternoon than with water running across the floor.
Look at the flexi hoses
The braided hoses under sinks, basins and toilets fail more often than people expect. A hose with rust spots, fraying or a bulge is worth replacing before you go.
Close the washing machine taps
If nobody will be home, turning off the two taps behind the washing machine takes the pressure off its hoses while it isn't being used.
Tell the house-sitter where things are
Show whoever is minding the house where the main stop tap and the gas meter are, and leave our number where they can find it.

Usually not. Turn off the isolation valve behind the toilet and book a daytime visit. Call straight away if water is escaping onto the floor and the valve won't stop it.
Can a blocked toilet wait until Monday?
If you have another toilet, usually yes: stop using the blocked one and book a weekday visit. If it is your only toilet, or water is coming up in the shower or floor waste as well, call us now.
What should I have ready when I call?
Your address, what is happening and where, what you have already turned off, and whether water is near any electrics. Mention anything about access too, such as strata parking, a locked gate or pets.
